Quilt in a day . . .

. . . well, almost.

I decided on Sunday to do a very fast baby quilt for a very special little one. Sooo, I pulled out a baggie, changed my mind, found another baggie with a few more pieces, added to that, pulled out some blue fabric, changed my mind, opened a box of pre-cut 4" squares and WALLAH. It was not until after I got it up on the design wall that I realized I had made yet another Kitchen Sink!

Hah, that's okay, I think it's grand and a lovely celebration of spring.


Now Nancy is having a contest. She wants us to share a picture of our favorite thimble on our blog in order to enter. Well Nancy, all of my thimbles are packed up and living in another state right now, so I thought I'd share some of my antique pincushions given to me by a very dear friend. Aren't they wonderful?

The day is fading away and I've yet to get any sewing done. Oh my, "I'm melting, I'm melting." No wait, wrong movie.

Crockpot versus Kitchen Aid

Oh yeah, and a recipe . . .

I just had to chuckle over Nadine's comment about being a crockpot quilter. If she can be the crockpot quilter, then I want to be the Kitchen Aid Mixer complete with dough hook. After all, I'm made up of variable speeds. Why the dough hook? Well that's for those really rough days when I'm pulling fabric from every bin and still cannot find what I need. Trudging through all of those colors can be a real chore, especially when you cannot see the floor!

Knowing I'd be too busy today to cook, I placed chicken pieces to thaw in the fridge last night. This afternoon I placed the rinsed chicken, 3 chopped peppers, 1 chopped onion, 4 oz can of mushrooms, 2 cans of diced tomatoes, 6 oz of tomato paste and 1 packet of McCormick Italian Herb Chicken seasoning mix in the crockpot. In 4 hours I'll have a hot and hearty meal to pour over angel hair pasta. Meanwhile, it's back to quilting. There's a lot to do today.

Kitchen Sink #3

Here's just a snippet of some really odd stuff.

This wonderful flannel backing I found at Susan's shop for only $2.00 a yard.

Notice I got even more adventuresome and used up various green plaids on the border. I'm not sure if I like that effect since the middle is so chaotic. I hope this inspires you to delve in to your stash and play with every lil' piece!

Next QOV

 

I'm having a bit of trouble getting pictures in to my blog since the computer melt down. However, perserverance pays off. Both Karen and Kathy came by yesterday to assist in the assembly of current QOV projects, so last night I was able to get this one put together. Kathy donated the mottled red border print, which is a nice change from the blue I think.

The weather is absolutely gorgeous today. Blue skies, cool breezes, and the dogwoods are beginning to bloom. I hope spring is winging it's way to your door also!

Lemony yumm

This is Mrs. Goodneedle's recipe with the QED rating - quick, easy, and delicious.

Easy Lemon Poppy Seed Cake

1 box lemon cake mix
1 box instant lemon pudding
1/4 cup poppy seeds
2/3 cup water
1/2 cup softened butter
3 eggs

Blend all ingredients. Grease and flour bundt pan (or bread pan). Pour batter into pan and spread all around evenly. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes. For cupcakes bake 18 minutes, for large muffins bake 25-30 minutes. Enjoy and don't forget to thank Mrs. Goodneedle.

Another bitty baggie bites the dust.

  Yes, this is a smallish one, but better done than bagged I say. It only needed borders and you'll be glad to know the backing is ready also. Now to find the right size batting piece. . . . hmmmm.

I've had an intense week of total computer reconstruction. For 3 days, I've talked to tech support more than I've talked to my dog . . . and that's saying something. Hopefully, in the long run, this will all pay off as my computer can run faster and jump higher even without Keds. I'd like to extend a special thank you to Joe for his patience, perserverence, and sense of humor.

Quilts on a windy day . . .

The first of the QOV tops is assembled. Very patriotic don't you think!

Do you remember my plans for the 9-patch like Finn's? It's finally done. I like it so much, after it's quilted I'll add hanging tabs and use it as a shower curtain in the guest bath. Of course I'll have to remove it when company actually uses the tub. I found the idea in a Thimbleberries book and was also inspired by Karen's newly decorated country red bathroom, which she showed back in November.

QOV Day was a huge success!

Here we have Karen and Jeanne stringing away.

In the opposite corner, Diane and Susan were ready for round 2.

And laying out the first of the quilts we have Susan on the left and my co-coordinator Kathy who assisted everyone with everything.

With 11 participants and a great deal of "string", 191 blocks were assembled. We'll be adding a few more blocks to make a total of 6 quilt tops. Way to go ladies!
