Since I'm not the Jolly Green Giant

About 15 feet is as high as I'm able to paint on the step ladder. And believe me, that's high enough!

The trim is started and I'm very pleased I chose a complimentary color.

Dolly isn't bored by the whole color concept, she's tired. We just finished our big walk around the block. And it was wonderfully cool this morning.

Here comes Fall!

Just a peak of Fall

Is starting to show up in my yard . . .

telling me to hurry up with the painting . . .

So I hurried all weekend, while Dolly waited patiently. She was rewarded with another truck ride to Lowe's. I finally decided to adjust the window trim color to rawhide, but 10% lighter. The door frames will be done in a color called carlsbad (as in canyon). Such a bold and daring move to actually use 3 colors on my house. I'm just thankful I don't own a victorian with miles of gingerbread and several colors to decide upon. It would be fun, but I sure wouldn't want to paint it.

A teeny bit of . . .

Progress.

Window trim color - Rawhide - by Olympic paints. It only took 2 trips to Lowe's and 9 different sample colors to finally decide.

Except for the truck rides to and from Lowe's, Dolly is not too enthusiastic about the new paint colors. Her mom, however, is thrilled that progress is being made.

Break time

Mom just wanted me to let you know that we'll be back in awhile. Summer is almost gone and we've important work to finish up.

Well, she thinks it's important anyway. And she did buy me my own pair of sneakers at the thrift shop so I really can't make a fuss now that I have something good to chew on.

Cheddar pop

No, it's not a snack food, just another lovely example from the International Quilt Study Center.

This one is dated 1890-1910.

See if you can find the red with black polka dots. What does that say about the maker?

"Let's use this one, it reminds me of Aunt Hattie."

. . . or perhaps,

"Well okay, since there are only 2 pieces, maybe no one will notice."

I love the way the cheddar border and navy binding pull all of the colors together and make them sing.

Mail inspiration

Included in a packet advertising the Fons and Porter magazine was this pattern.

The original is in the collection of the International Quilt Study Center and dates from 1860-1880.

In my baggie collection are several blue and white triangles, so I could whip this one up pretty quickly . . . . hmmmm, possibilities.

10 MPH in 3 seconds

I'm not looking to break the sound barrier, I just want to do some string piecing on the front porch.


So I bought this lil' gem, which I've yet to name. As soon as the painting is done, I'll be out there . . . unless it's 30 degrees of course.

Someone else is looking forward to cooler weather. We had a big walk in the park downtown early this morning. Upon returning home, I had to bribe her with a cooked pork rib to get her out of the truck. (Have you ever tried to move an 85-lb puppy who doesn't want to?)

She loves the truck. Dolly parks her nose on the passenger side windowsill and gets a good whiff of whatever is out there. When a really good smell comes along she barks with exuberance! (Eventually my ears stop ringing!) Truck rides are her second favorite thing after ice cream . . . and ribs.
