Finally Friday

Here's a bit of fall color for you to enjoy, complements of the Old Country Store Museum.

I'm taking some time this weekend to work in the sewing room . . . finally.  Stacks of fabrics have been waiting for longer than I care to count, so starching and pressing are the order of the day.

Dolly and I will be busy kitting up pieces for a variety of projects to work on when the cold wind blows.

And speaking of cold wind, if you live on the east coast or know someone who does, keep a weather eye out.  There's a very big storm brewing.

I think it's especially wonderful for children, as costumes can be rented for them also.

It started with a tickle . . .

In the throat.


Then sneezing, then coughing.  Gee, could it be bronchitis?

This will teach me to go where there are crowds.  I have learned that hot and spicy soup from the Chinese restaurant does help.  And I found a Japanese ramen noodle brand at the grocery store that is very spicy and helps clear the sinuses. Of course, thankfully, there are various medications.  We live in a wondrous age.  However, I surely hope you don't get it.

Really good stuff!

Clever title huh?  But truly, there were some exceptional artists at the festival this year and I'll be happy to share as much information as I can in case you see something you like.

Marquetry artist Jane Burke has a quilter's eye for detail and beyond.  This piece, my friends, is made entirely of wood.  As a matter of fact, all of her pictures are made with wood and she had several to choose from.  Sadly, my photo is below par.  Luckily if you click on www.JaneBurke.com you can see more for yourself.  Hop on over and enjoy the view.

Next up, Marsha Bugg's lovely porcelain pottery.  I'm not sure if Marsha has a web site.  However, if you come to the Fireside Sale at the Folk School, which is the first Sunday in December, you'll find her there selling very similar pieces.  Her glazes are soft and earthy and her designs very graceful and enduring.

Last, but certainly not least, the newest work from my dear friend Suzy.  Again, lighting is a real problem in the festival barn so believe me when I tell you this painting looks 8 million times better in person.  Suzy will also be at the Fireside Sale, however, you can also see her work by going to http://www.artbysuzy.com/

Hello Monday

I've not had a chance to download the pictures from the Fall Festival at the Folk School, but I promise to post them this week.

There were many beautiful items and colors.  Sadly, the weather did not cooperate, as it was a gray and overcast, chilly day.  Still, the crowds seemed plentiful when I was there.  The music was festive and I got to see several friends who were selling their wares.

If fall festivals and fairs are happening in your area, be sure to go and support your fellow artisan.  They work hard to create one of a kind items that you'll enjoy for years to come.

A Touch of Fall Color

Some pumpkins I grew this summer.

Since I've been busy deep cleaning my house for the past 3 weeks, I've yet to get out and about to take any color-fall pictures.  Our leaves are starting to change just a bit.  First frost is predicted for Oct. 21-31, so I'm sure after that the color will come quickly.

For those of you in the area, don't forget the John C. Campbell Folk School is hosting it's annual Fall Festival this coming weekend.  If you want to shop, get there early on Saturday just as they open if not before hand, as it gets very crowded.  If you want to visit, come on Sunday.  The quality of workmanship I saw last year was outstanding.  And of course, it's a great place to buy Christmas gifts.

Once upon a time . . .

 . . .pink and green were thought of as "preppy" colors; although, I cannot remember why exactly.

Not surprisingly, this quilt was way ahead of it's time and I do believe the alternate blue squares gives it extra zing.  Can you see the scalloped stitching within the basket and the curved lines under the "handle"?  The glass glare made capturing the quilting lines rather difficult, but I did try.  Little did I know this exhibit would be gone so soon.
