Border dispute . . .

We're already past Valentine's Day heading into St. Patty's Day and I'm still reorganizing the closet putting back Christmas boxes.  It's a process I tell you.

It seems I was easily distracted by bins containing quilt tops, as well as fabric.  What can I say except that I'm a perpetual organizer.  Seriously, my friends kid me all the time because I stack and fold and move fabric around, but rarely do I find time of late to actually sew anything.

So I thought I'd surprise everyone and put a border on one of the many quilt tops waiting completion.

But there was one little problem  . . . what color???

Once again, I stacked, pinned, unfolded, re-folded and moved around.  It's a syndrome I'm sure.

The only cure being more fabric of course.

Before I ran out to the LQS, I dug a bit deeper looking for a hunter green and instead found a medium blue, leaning towards teal, with just a touch of green.  Ahhh perfect.

Suddenly I realized it was the white intensity which was lacking in the previously auditioned colors.  Is that shade or tint, I can never remember.  I'm just glad I found it before next Christmas.

A finish, etc.

This weekend I found myself with a block of time and pulled out left over pieces of quilted jackets I've been saving for 20 years.  I trimmed up the sections at 5-1/2" wide, sewed them end to end, divided by 3 and made the top section of the sewing mat.  A left over 5" wide piece became the pocket section.  The blue front and backing is from left over denim I sewed together to fit.  No quilting needed, as the patch sections were already quilted with flannel.    Final width is around 26", which is perfect for my featherweight or my Bernina.

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of meeting up with some local gals to work on blocks for Quilts of Valor.  Extra blocks are being made and as I understand it, two quilts will be finished and sent to Alycia.

We've been feeling the blast of arctic air since yesterday.  This morning we woke up to 20 degrees.  Perfect weather to stay inside and sew!

Puppy Love

Oak siding made from heat treated wood pallets.  A tin roof will allow up to a dozen bunnies to sleep peacefully while listening to the rain.

Momma bunny and her 7 youngin's will move into this luxurious high rise as soon as I can get it home.  Dear friends are allowing me the use of their wood shop while I build 3 more.  How I've missed playing in sawdust.

Pictures of the new bunnies soon.  They will open their eyes any day now.

Switching hues

Often at this time of the year when gray skies and dreary days predominate, I pull out my soft Easter colors to liven things up a bit.  However, for now I chose a top that needs finishing.  A simple churn dash block done in 1930s prints surrounded by a frame of solid pink.  I've decided the borders will be solid pink and white triangle units, which should give it a festive air.

I'm so glad the fabric manufacturers make multiple colors in every hue to satisfy my color cravings.  Otherwise I would have had to take up photography or perhaps join the circus.

First the good news . . .

You remember Sesame and Nickell?  I'm happy to announce they are the proud parents of 7 little bundles of joy.  Come Easter, this place will be "hoppin."  (pun intended)


Saturday's storm left a good 4 inches of fluffy white stuff on my part of the mountain.

I believe Dolly was the only one sad to see it all disappear today.

I'm still working on all of the QOV prep work so I can't show you that yet.  If you've not heard,  we'll be meeting in the conference room starting at 9:30 a.m.  I'll be posting the supply list very soon.

how it could be 65 degrees on Wednesday and 25 degrees on Friday?

But January was a rough month all around.  One of the brightest stars in my sky, my dear aunt, died on January 8th and Buttons, whom you see here, died on January 9th.  Thus I've had little to say you see.  Grief is something we must all endure.  There is no time reference when we lose someone we love, just a well of memories.

I'll post more soon on the QOV event, projects and updates.
