I've been searching and searching

For ideas using fall colors.

This one is pretty, but not quite right.

This one is fun and the size is manageable.

Joan did a great pumpkin quilt first published in American Patchwork and Quilting.  I've been thinking about doing that one for quite awhile.

Guess I'd better get moving on it.  In less than a month, the green, green grass of home will be covered in frost.

Which reminds me, have you begun your Christmas list yet, hmmmm?

A bevy of beauties, and a top!

 The babies are catching up to their momma both in size and voracious appetite.

A little sewing happened this weekend.

This is a 6-1/2" crumb square block surrounded by 2-1/2" squares, framed with left over muslin sashing strips cut 2-1/2" wide.

Very simple.  A good way to use up "stuff".  Although, I'm sure your sewing room is neat and tidy and you never have any left over "stuff".  LOL

Question: How many bunnies will fit on a carrot?

Answer:  It depends on how fast they can chew!

 

I'm working on a name for this one.  The cheddar squares help create a focal point, keeping the vast array of colors balanced.  I've learned that it's best to use 2 different dark logs in each square.  When they closely match, it causes either a bulls eye effect or a blended effect.  Finished size on this top will be about 90 x 100.  A good sized for a cold winter's night.

This is Scooter, and he/she will be ready for adoption in just 4 weeks.  It's not too late to put your order in.

"Where's my sign" you ask?

Well, actually I don't have a sign.  But if I did, it would say, "NEED HELP"!

Ideas on how to quilt this top are not coming to me.  Perhaps there's a dearth of chocolate in the house.  Dolly has that clueless look on her face, a reflection of mine no doubt.

Or maybe my brain has gone blank, which happens on occasion.  

So I'd truly like your suggestions.  Perhaps you've done one similar.  Perhaps you've seen one done.  Perhaps you'd like to see one done so you can be inspired to finish yours.  The one pattern I can't see doing is plain stippling, but all other ideas will be considered.

Here's the red tree, getting redder.

Fall is coming and with it cooler weather.  Can I get an AMEN from the balcony choir on that one!

If you're encased in a cubicle today, be sure to get out at lunch and see the leaves change.  It's good for the brain, especially if it feels blank.

We interrupt this work day . . .

 Honest to goodness, this is what was buzzing around my house at tree top level this afternoon.

And I don't mean just flying over once, no sireee Bob, this fool circled at least a dozen times.

I'm very sad my camera could not capture the number on the side, as I've a friend in the FAA.  There must be aviation rules that prohibit this sort of nonsense.

We're enjoying cooler temps and do you know what that means?

Yup, that's right, the John C. Campbell Folk School Fall Festival is right around the corner.

Here is the dairy barn, the main location for most activities.  Mark your calendars for Saturday / Sunday, October 5th and 6th.  If you want to shop, come very early on Saturday, say around 8:30 am.  You'll get the first parking spots and will be here before the vendors open, but will miss all the traffic congestion.  If you just want to visit, come when it's less crowded on Sunday.

If you're coming in from out of town, make reservations for the Holiday Inn Express here in Murphy.  Their rates are reasonable and it's a very nice hotel.

If you want directions on how to get to the folk school using the back roads, just e-mail me.  If you go through Brasstown, traffic will be backed up to South Carolina.

Now that you've caught up on blog reading, go out and enjoy this beautiful day.

Thoughtful Thursday

End-of-Summer is putting on a glorious show of hues.  As we await the brilliance of Fall, I'm so glad we live in a climate of continual color.

Company tour

Company came on Saturday, so we headed on over to the J.C. Campbell Folk School and took the Doll-ster for a good long walk.  

The babies are growing by leaps and bounds.  Here's a rare shot, both have their tongues out enjoying the taste of cold watermelon on a hot day.

A Bun and His Bench

A whole yard full of grass and this is what I found Samson doing the other day.  Just hanging out, enjoying the scenery and cool mountain breezes.  Smart Bun!

Next up on the design wall, an 8-year-old project waiting for some very fun sashing.  Ohhh the ideas are percolating.
