Set 3" screws in pre-drilled holes in back 2 x 4"

That looks very sturdy. For my table I have cut 4 lengths of PVC pipe to raise it, it works quite well.

Very crafty and useful! I went the go-to-the-store route and used black plastic risers for mine :-).
