Famous faces of 2012

Guess whose picture is on Janet Evanovich's web site? I always knew Dolly was special, but now her fans will also.

After raiding a friend's fabric stash,

I spent the weekend, washing, starching, ironing and trimming up a LOT of fabric.

In preparation for finishing borders and backing on the 6 new QOV tops, along with 3 others I found hanging in the closet.

If you recognize and can date this piece, you win today's prize. It's from the Christopher Columbus anniversary series. I decided it was high time it left my sewing room and moved onward.
Santa brought Dolly this giant rawhide for Christmas. She was quite intimated by it until I sawed it in half with a hacksaw. Now it's half gone. (Thanks for the tip Kelli and Buster).

Moving on to #6!

This is the last in a series of QOV tops I'll be doing with just 3-1/4" squares. The other 5 are awaiting borders.

Even Bugs Bunny was represented, along with a host of other characters.

And look what I found tucked away. Won't this make great backing? Maybe borders . . . hmmm.

Stash deletion so far this year: 2880 pieces.

I can't count yardage, so I'll have to count pieces.

Ol' Man Winter

Came knockin' on our door this morning. We woke up to a balmy 21 degrees, the first dusting of snow, with the low going down to 16 tonight.

If you're experiencing similar temps, please be sure to bring your pets inside and provide plenty of fresh water to prevent hypothermia.

You may want to pour 1 or 2 tablespoons of margerine or oil on your pet's food. Wood stove or electric heat can have a drying effect on their coat and the oil helps counteract that. Folks who live in states such as Colorado know this, as the air is always so dry there, but those of us on the east coast sometimes need a reminder.

I'm working on the 4th QOV quilt top tonight. As soon as they have borders, I'll take a group shot and share.

Until then, keep stitchin' . . .

The New Year's Sew-A-Thon Has Begun!

On the design wall is the 2nd QOV top being assembled.

These squares are all 3-1/4 inches. The prints include holidays, stripes, plaids, checks, flags, cats, dogs, shells, music, motorcycles, pumpkins, helicopters, trains, planes, batiks, small prints, large prints, and everything in between. A regular cacophony of color.

If you've been busy de-cluttering your stash, why not cut it into squares and assemble something similar. I figure if there's enough variety, it will be far more interesting to look at. So go ahead, jump on board the "use up odd fabric challenge" and make a quilt for a soldier.
