It's a time of year for thinking of others . . . and in light of this year's ecomony, ensuring that what we are giving truly goes to those in need. Here in my small town, one church boxed up an entire Thanksgiving meal for 160 families. Those directing the food drive verified that those asking for help truly needed it. By buying in bulk at a discounted rate they were able to make the funds and the food go further. Perhaps there's an organization in your home town doing the same thing. Check with members of your community, you may be helping a neighbor you already know.

The food banks around here can barely keep any food on the shelves...we opted to not get a tree this year an donated the money to Golden Harvest...Also I noticed our local grocery store has canned goods near the checkout line that you can buy and then put directly into the containers that go to the foodbank...so if you skip one soda a day you can give one can of vegetables...
We did the same at our church for Thanksgiving. We've done it for several years and all meet and deliver them on the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving. It is a great reminder for me to be thankful for all my blessings. It's easy to forget throughout the year. I think it's a great lesson for my daughter, also! Have a great weekend!
