Travelin' on this fine Fall weekend

Before the sun was up, we headed for Gastonia Saturday morning.  Jeremiah and 7 other bunz began their adventure to meet new families and friends.

 After lunch shopping at Mary Jo's included such treasures as fall tablecloth fabric, a few light shirting prints and a few light solids.

 If you're headed that way, do stop around Spartanburg to fill up.  Gas was cheapest there.

 Today's excursion took me south a bit to visit friends up for the weekend.  It was a beautiful day for a drive.  This is peak color weekend in western NC.

The estate even had their own billy goat.

It was very nice to see them all and enjoy a yummy lunch.  But I tell ya, all of this coming and going is exhausting.  Dolly for one is very glad we'll be home awhile.

Snafus . . . yep, pleural

This is why I didn't glue in the door brackets.  Ooops, an easy mistake to make

 I attached the backing plywood at the very top and very bottom, using the left over screws from putting up the blinds.

Then I put the shelves in, and THEN I attached tacking nails to the back.  Whew, lesson learned.  HOWEVER . . .

 The door won't swing easily, as the dolly edge is too high.  I need to raise the cabinet from the bottom up by putting in 2 boards that measure 2 x 2-3/4 x 15.

We'll be heading to Home Depot tonight to get the rest of the pieces parts for this project and a few others.

I've decided that once the chairs are painted (blue), I'm going to use fabrics I already have for the chair cushion covers.  Will use 3 different coordinating prints.  I've picked out the curtain fabric, but am not sure if I have enough.  That's next week's project.

Guess who is looking forward to everything being done?

On Saturday these 2 lovelies, 3 of their siblings, their momma, Jeremiah, and Rachel will all be heading off to Gastonia to be transported back to Wilmington to meet their new families.  Thrilled does not begin to describe how glad I am that my sweet darlings will be looked after and loved by wonderful people.

A lot of little things

 First the good news . . .

 The new blinds are up.  The previous ones, being tan, always looked dusty in this room of so much white.  So up went new ones, albeit not without a few choice words like jumpin' Jehoshaphat.

The trouble came with putting in the brackets; trying to hold them, the new screw, and the screw gun and not drop anything, which of course I did . . several times.

Finally the light bulb went off and I scotch taped the bracket in 2 places to the wood just to hold it until I could get the first screw in.  Now I do  plan on dusting them, but I've no plans for taking them down again. . . . ever!

The shelves went in the new storage cupboards, but not without a struggle.  As they squared up the cabinet, out popped several nail tacks on the back, messing up 4 places on the inside.

The problem tacks were removed.  New tacks installed this time angled towards the outer edge.  To do that, I took my smallest drill bit, started the tip in straight and then angled it carefully to the outside edge.  Just a smidgen.  Then the tacks were carefully driven from the back into the side of the cabinet.  Gorilla All Surface Glue was applied and smoothed with a Q-tip all the way down the back problem edge.  Clamps held everything snug for 24 hours.

Next came the doors . . . oh lawsy me, more colorful phrases.

The first door went on fine, but it was crooked on the outside.  The second one was off by 1/4" on the top bracket and would not line up at all.

After several attempts, I took both doors off, turned them upside down, and removed the center bracket from each.  Turning them upside down was the trick.  Both top and bottom hinges slid on correctly, were tightened, and then the middle hinge was slid in place and screwed to the door.

I'm now deciding if this is their final location before filling them with fabric.

Next on the project list is the old cabinet, which was given to me.

The screw holes on the outside and inside were filled with wood putty and will get painted over.

The icky backing will be replaced with cardboard that came with the new cabinets of which I painted one side white today.

We were very grateful for a weekend of warmer temps, sunshine, and NO rain.
