The thinnest cake ever.

A new thrift store cookbook, offered a new chocolate cake recipe.
My first clue should have been the term "thin batter", evidently a synonym for "really skinny cake".

Or could it be that the baking powder is old??

Luckily, there's a solution . . . lotsa frosting.  "The thicker the frosting, the higher the cake!"  You can quote me, it's true.
Today's gray and dreary forecast is offset by Fall color.  Cooler temps are coming in and I hear some states North and West actually got snow.

Please drive safely if winter weather visits your neighborhood.

Until then, keep stitchin' . . .

Photos from the blacksmith auction

Every year, the folk school auctions donated items to support the blacksmith building, etc.
It's a fun way to spend an afternoon while meeting up with friends.
Beautiful ironwork, woodwork and quilts are just a few of the items donated.
This trivet displays the folk school motto, "I sing behind the plow."

A peep at the mountains covered in color.
The newest classroom building, almost finished.
Luckily, my camera had the long lens on to capture this wee fellow.

It took 2 days, but I finally got it right.

For some reason, every time I work on something electrical, it takes 3 times longer than normal.
The corner light off the front porch has not worked well for over a year.  After finding several new lights in a porch bin, I decided to replace the original.

Multiple trips up and down the ladder ensued.  This light was wired in, screwed in, and tested not once, but twice.  And still one bulb would not work.
On the second day, I cut a rubber gasket from a car mat, chose a second fixture, aligned the holes correctly, taped it together, and went up the ladder once again.
Wired everything in very securely, and standing at a precarious angle, screwed the whole thing down.  The extra gasket helps seal the fixture well, preventing moisture from entering.
Climbed back down, turned it on, and finally . . . it worked.
It's a long drop on this side of the house.  After falling off a small ladder 3 weeks ago and hitting the cement floor, ladders are not my favorite thing right now.  However, the gutters needed cleaning badly, so it had to be done.
The last of the pumpkins have been picked.  It's been so warm, they were allowed to grow a bit longer.  This year, the plan is to bury them in the garden in one location and mark the spot so I know where the seedlings will start coming up come spring.

Halloween is over with Thanksgiving fast approaching.  That means Christmas is coming up fast.  Oh boy, I'd best get busy.

Until then, keep stitchin' . . .

Just like Bilbo, we set off for an adventure

this morning to the Mennonite Market.
They no longer had potatoes; however, since it was warm through October, plenty of other vegetables were available.
These pink porkers will no doubt provide a holiday feast.
 Twin lambs, too cute.
Notice this friendly bovine had her head through the fence wire.
But wriggled back out once I got closer.
Coming home through the Ocoee gorge, the last of Fall color whizzed by.
Thankfully, I wasn't driving, just taking pictures.
If the day had been a bit less cloudy, they would have shown up better.
Ahh well, it's always nice to view the best of mother nature on the other side of the mountain.

Until then, keep stitchin' . . .
