Sad news on the homefront.

This month we've bid a sad farewell to 2 bunnies.  Nickell and Riley are gone, but not forgotten.  

On a happier note, Houdini, the white male bunny, went off to a farm in North Georgia and will have several other furry critters to keep him company.

We enjoyed listening to the well read, informative guides during the house tour, garden tour, and slave history tour.

Do you love history?

Ever since I read "John Adams" by David McCullough, I've been wanting to see Monticello.  The house, the gardens, the orchards.  Did you know that Thomas Jefferson designed a plow based purely on physics, but never actually used one.

He had so many keen interests and abilities and died on the same day as John Adams, July 4, 1826.  That's right, the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

This week, I'll be walking the grounds he walked and seeing the house he designed and had built.

It makes me proud to be an American and I'm so thankful for the group that helped preserve his legacy.

God Bless America, The land of the free because of the brave!

Another easy, peasy project!

The borders are FINALLY on the new churn dash.  This quilt was inspired by a photograph in the December 1991 Country Living magazine.  A folded quilt was draped over a rocker in a beautiful kitchen.

To make each block, begin with 2 - 4" dark squares and 2 light.  Draw a diagonal line through the middle and sew a scant 1/4" on each side of the line.  Cut in half, press open, trim up 4 triangle units to 3".

To make the 4 bar units, begin with a 2" strip cut 13" long.  Sew lengthwise along a 2-1/2" strip of light-colored fabric/muslin.  You can fit 3 (13")  sections on one 2-1/2 strip light/muslin.  Press the seam towards the dark side and cut 4 - 3" long sections.  The light colored strip is wider for easy trimming once block is assembled.

Assemble the block in 3 rows.  Triangle unit, bar unit, triangle unit.  Then bar unit, 3" light square and bar unit.  The last row being triangle unit, bar unit, triangle unit.

The sashing is cut 3" wide and the borders are cut 6" wide.

Remember to tear your fabric to get true grain and starch it well to prevent raveling threads.
