Comes In like a lion

This is what we woke up to this morning.  And it's still coming down.

I don't envy you folks in the west and northeast who are still shoveling out.

However, I do hope the wheat farmers in the midwest are getting enough moisture for this year's crop.

If there's winter weather in your neighborhood, please get out your bag of rock salt and sprinkle your elderly neighbor's steps as well as your own.

Dancing 'round the May pole

Since we keep waking up to temps in the 20's lately, I'm ready for something spring-like . . . thus the name.  You may name your block anything you choose.

As promised, here are the instructions.

You'll notice that I started adding in colors that contain more white.  There's a bit of gold, pink, light blue, and lavender.  All add more punch as the previous blocks were downright boring.

Begin with 4, 1-3/4" main color (orange) squares.

All remaining pieces are 1-3/4" wide.

From darks, cut lengths of:  5", 3-1/2", 2-1/4"

From lights, cut lengths of: 5", 3-1/2", 2-1/4"

Assemble vertical units, pressing orange seem lines to the inside of each square.

First pin center sections together with abutting orange seam lines in opposite directions. Sew together.
Add side sections, again abutting orange square seams together.
Press lengthwise seams in one direction.

Lay vertical line of long ruler on center most seam, trimming top even with top of far right orange square.  Now you have a true "base" edge.

Then use your square ruler to cut square evenly at 5-1/2".

When assembling the vertical sections, use a skinny 1/4" seam.  It really helps if your fabrics are lightly starched before cutting.  Crisp fabric allows all the pieces to play nicely together.

A new, old project and some biscuits

Dolly has been having a bit of trouble with her tummy this week.  I won't go into details, but those who own pets will understand.  This morning, using Marilyn's  recipe, I made a double batch of treats.  Despite her size, Dolly has always been very finicky about "cookies."  I'm happy to report, these passed the crunch test.  Remember to use regular pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling.  And if you're having trouble finding brown rice flour, just buy a bag of brown rice and grind it up in your food processor or blender.  It will work just as well.

Here is my current new, old project. It's been languishing in a bin for awhile now.  The orange squares are 1-3/4".  I'll share the rest of the measurements as soon as I can.  Not sure how many blocks I'm going to make yet.  However, the colors I'm pulling are blues, greens, pinks, purples, reds and browns.
